The Country seems to be both a geographical place as well as a metaphorical one. Several of the individuals who the Camerata absorbed through the Transistor were said to have left "for the Country" after their disappearance. Whenever a person left Cloudbank, whether it was just simply to leave, for vacation, or for retirement, they were said to have gone to the Country. But it is also used as a metaphor for the afterlife -- for example, Asher Kendrell telling Red that he would, "See [her] in the Country" before committing suicide. Royce Bracket also compares The Country to the Transistor, remarking that: "You can get in but you can't get out. How about that! You can get in but it's a one-way street, a one-way road. It's like the Country. You don't just go for a visit you go for good."
